Roundabout Theatre Company’s Education and Community Partnerships programming has offered nationally recognized programs that use the stimulating power of the arts to inspire and engage since 1996. Our goal is to use theatre to promote social equity through three core program areas: Teaching & Learning, Career Training, and Community Partnerships. Roundabout’s programs (school partnerships, youth ensembles, fellowships, artist residencies, etc.) aim to use theatre to promote social equity and correct injustices while building an American theatre that thrives on diversity. The Door works with Roundabout to support its participants, programming, and mission.

 

In 2016, Roundabout, in partnership with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), which represents many of the behind-the-scenes workers in theatre and film, developed a technical theatre workforce program. Year-One of the paid-training program is designed to provide participants ages 18-24 years old with hands-on training in multiple disciplines of technical theatre. These participants will benefit greatly from the supportive services of The Door and the guidance of the Social Worker.

 

The Social Work Supervisor will be responsible for supporting a case load of Roundabout program participants, coordinating all  supportive services, customized social-emotional skills training and work readiness workshops, tracking post-training placement, and in collaboration with the Roundabout staff providing retention services for young adults participating in Roundabout Theatre Company’s programs under the supervision of the Roundabout’s Director of Career Training and The Door’s Director of College Advising and Arts programming.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Roundabout Theatre Company’s Theatrical Workforce Development Program staff to revise and enhance the current screening and recruitment and retention process, and social services delivery/access for participants across programming, including iLead the education team’s work to drive strong and continuous participant socio-emotional development and support programming.
  • Compile and analyze data connected to Education at Roundabout’s socio-emotional programming for participants.
  • Build and implement strategies to determine candidates most likely to succeed.  
  • Participate on the interview panels to select applicants to participate in the Theatrical Workforce Development Program.
  • Support the development and facilitation of customized work readiness and professional development training, as it relates specifically to preservation work (including financial literacy and job retention/growth strategies).
  • Provide case management, resource referrals, educational advocacy for TWDP Fellows, Roundabout Youth Ensemble participants, and alumni.
  • Develop trainings and advise staff and teaching artists across Roundabout’s education programming.
  • Provide support for Roundabout Youth Ensemble participants.
  • Provide follow-up, support and retention services for TWDP Fellows for 12-24 months after completion of the training program. This may include retention at the end of training year, retention at the end of the first “freelance/job development”, and retention at “one year after USITT conference experience”.
  • Assist with the development of an employer advisory committee (including representatives from select employment partners theatres, IATSE, and related industry organizations) to provide on-going information and resource sharing ensuring the trainings are well-informed and effective.
  • Connect trainees to employment in either union or non-union positions.
  • Handle any appropriate administrative responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor at Roundabout and The Door’s Managing Director of Career and Education Services.   
 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) (LMSW preferred)
  • Previous experience working with young adults required
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Two years of experience in a social service setting working with a multi-cultural young adult population required
  • Two years of experience providing employment-related case management, career readiness, and employment retention services required
  • Demonstrated capacity to serve as a coach and mentor to students and staff
  • Experience building relationship with people representing diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent written, oral presentation, and computer skills
  • Experience and comfort in using online databases and tracking systems. This includes programs such as Microsoft Excel, Forms, SalesForce, and slack
  • Previous experience doing outreach and conducting presentations
  • Experience in theatre, especially technical theatre isa plus
  • Must be organized and creative with the ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and lead teams
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to model work readiness skills and appropriate workplace behavior at all times
  • Must work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, and/or Mandarin (recommended)
  • SIFI certification is a plus
  • Able to lift 30 lbs
 

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week with evening and some weekend hours required

Salary: $70,000.00. Commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package
